I am a richly blessed American educator concerned about the plight of the poor and disenfranchised in the U.S. and around the world. I am motivated by the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, an advocate for the poor and downtrodden. I believe that giving time and resources to meet the material and spiritual needs of people who are hungry, hurting, or without shelter is the principal evidence of my commitment to follow Christ (Matthew 19:21-22; 25:37-40).

When I can, and not nearly often enough, I take short trips to the developing world. Beginning with a trip to Haiti in February 2010, I am using this weblog to share these experiences with friends and family.

    Rick,
Thank you for the work you are doing in Haiti and for giving us first-hand knowledge of what you are experiencing. At first it looked like you were going to be building latrines, which is interesting to me because HOPE’s current project is to raise $400 to build a latrine at a school in Africa. Whatever you end up doing, I know the people of Haiti will be blessed by your work and witness. I’m praying for you and will make sure our HOPE members know of your work and pray for you as well. Be safe.
